{"id":34838,"date":"2018-06-06T14:18:11","date_gmt":"2018-06-06T19:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=34838"},"modified":"2018-06-06T14:18:11","modified_gmt":"2018-06-06T19:18:11","slug":"us-challenges-russia-to-nuclear-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=34838","title":{"rendered":"US Challenges Russia to Nuclear War"},"content":{"rendered":"<header><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" title=\"US Challenges Russia to Nuclear War\" src=\"https:\/\/www.strategic-culture.org\/images\/news\/2018\/06\/06\/or-40869.jpg\" alt=\"US Challenges Russia to Nuclear War\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"date\"><\/div>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.strategic-culture.org\/news\/2018\/06\/06\/us-challenges-russia-to-nuclear-war.html\">US Challenges Russia to Nuclear War<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<p>Now that the United States (with the cooperation of its NATO partners) has turned the former Soviet Union\u2019s states other than Russia into NATO allies, and has likewise turned the Soviet Union\u2019s Warsaw Pact allies into America\u2019s own military allies in NATO,\u00a0<u><strong><em>the United States is finally turning the screws directly against Russia itself<\/em><\/strong><\/u>, by, in effect, challenging Russia to defend its ally Syria.\u00a0<strong>The US is warning Syria\u2019s Government that Syrian land<\/strong>, which is occupied by the US and by the anti-Government forces that the US protects in Syria,\u00a0<strong>is no longer\u00a0<em>really\u00a0<\/em>Syria\u2019s land.\u00a0The US is saying that there will be direct war\u00a0<\/strong>between Syria\u2019s armed forces and America\u2019s armed forces\u00a0<strong>if Syria tries to restore its control over that land<\/strong>.\u00a0Tacitly,\u00a0<strong>America\u2019s message in this to Moscow is: now is the time for you to quit defending Syria\u2019s Government<\/strong>, because, if you don\u2019t \u2014 if you come to Syria\u2019s defense as Syria tries to kill those occupying forces (including the US troops and advisors who are occupying Syria) \u2014 then\u00a0<strong>you (Russia) will be at war against the United States, even though the US is clearly the invader<\/strong>, and Russia (as Syria\u2019s ally) is clearly the defender.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Korzun, my colleague at the Strategic Culture Foundation, headlined on May 29<sup>th<\/sup>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.strategic-culture.org\/news\/2018\/05\/29\/us-state-department-tells-syria-what-can-cant-own-soil.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.strategic-culture.org\/news\/2018\/05\/29\/us-state-department-tells-syria-what-can-cant-own-soil.html\">&#8220;US State Department Tells Syria What It Can and Can\u2019t Do on Its Own Soil\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and he opened:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The US State Department has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/r\/pa\/prs\/ps\/2018\/05\/282540.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/r\/pa\/prs\/ps\/2018\/05\/282540.htm\">warned<\/a>\u00a0Syria against launching an offensive against terrorist positions in southern Syria. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/r\/pa\/prs\/ps\/2018\/05\/282540.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/r\/pa\/prs\/ps\/2018\/05\/282540.htm\">statement<\/a>\u00a0claims that the American military will respond if Syrian forces launch an operation aimed at restoring the legitimate government\u2019s control over the rebel-held areas, including the territory in southwestern Syria between Daraa and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
