The One Question We Should All Be Asking About Establishment Russia\u00a0Hysteria<\/a><\/h3>\n

Babchenko was dead, to begin with. There was no doubt whatever about that. News reports had been aired, mournful obituaries published, outraged tweets cursing Moscow flew hither and thither. Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman condemned<\/a> \u201cthe Russian totalitarian machine\u201d for assassinating a journalist simply because of his \u201chonesty and principled stance\u201d. UK Foreign Minister Boris Johnson proclaimed<\/a>\u00a0 that he was \u201cAppalled to see another vocal Russian journalist, Arkady Babchenko, murdered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not a soul questioned it: old Babchenko was as dead as a door-nail.<\/p>\n

And then, like the ghost of an old business partner announcing three Christmas visitations, there he was. Everyone knew<\/em> that Babchenko was dead. They didn\u2019t suspect it, they weren\u2019t relatively confident about it. They knew<\/em> it.<\/p>\n

And it was all fake.<\/p>\n

What if Babchenko had decided to stay \u201cdead\u201d?<\/h2>\n

What if Arkady hadn\u2019t turned up, looking sheepish at that presser? What if he hadn\u2019t turned up ever? What if he\u2019d decided he couldn\u2019t face the humiliation, or what if his SBU handlers decided\u2026<\/p>\n

The main purpose of this article is to draw attention to an important op-ed<\/a> by an Off-Guardian<\/em> editor<\/a>which asks us to consider a hugely significant hypothetical question: what if Babchenko had, for whatever reason, remained \u201cdead\u201d? What if, instead of appearing at a press conference<\/a>\u00a0the day after his faked assassination publicly apologizing to his poor traumatized wife, the controversial Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko had put on a wig, obtained some fake papers, and started a new life in Hawaii? What would have happened then?<\/p>\n
