TEPCO is still struggling with how to dispose of the tritium-tainted water. Options discussed have included dumping it into the ocean, but that proposal has angered local fishing communities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018.05.20fukushima.JPG?itok=CuZLKBxy\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018.05.20fukushima.JPG?itok=CuZLKBxy\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018.05.20fukushima.JPG\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/2018.05.20fukushima.JPG?itok=CuZLKBxy 1x\" alt=\"Fukushima\" width=\"500\" height=\"267\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"92198fe7-d93e-4871-b1e2-52ca22ca63f7\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At some point, TEPCO and the government will need to make a difficult decision. <strong>Until then, ground water will continue to seep into the ruined reactor, where it becomes contaminated<\/strong>. Afterward, TEPCO can treat the contaminated water to purify it, but they <strong>can&#8217;t remove the tritium, which is why the supply of water contaminated with tritium continues to grow.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As one government official pointed out, Japan can&#8217;t simply store the radioactive water forever.
