This technology is considered \u201cpassive,\u201d which means the microchip stores data that can be read by other devices but cannot read data themselves.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/Screen-Shot-2018-05-16-at-1.59.23-PM-768x798_0.png?itok=mdkptbPz\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/Screen-Shot-2018-05-16-at-1.59.23-PM-768x798_0.png?itok=mdkptbPz\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/Screen-Shot-2018-05-16-at-1.59.23-PM-768x798_0.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/Screen-Shot-2018-05-16-at-1.59.23-PM-768x798_0.png?itok=mdkptbPz 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"520\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"f86426ae-b6e7-43f8-bc0a-ead519b73992\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This might resemble an Orwellian nightmare to many, but in Sweden, residents are flocking to get these implanted microchips by \u201cconvenience over concerns of potential personal data violations,\u201d AFP explained.<\/p>\n<p>Governments in Europe quietly experimented with embedding the small chip in humans in 2015 in Sweden, and several other countries in the region, before the recent rollout.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSwedes have gone on to be very active in microchipping, with scant debate about issues surrounding its use, in a country keen on new technology and where the sharing of personal information is held up as a sign of a transparent society,\u201d AFP notes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ulrika Celsing is one of 3,000 Swedes with a microchip implanted in her hand \u2014 a process called \u201cbiohacking.\u201d The 28-year-old told AFP, \u201cIt was fun to try something new and to see what one could use it for to make life easier in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Celsing explained that the microchip has turned into an \u201celectronic handbag\u201d and has even replaced her gym card.<\/p>\n<p>She can even book a train ticket online, and then use her hand like a ticket to board a train.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/sj-rail.jpg?itok=aFjxfShg\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/sj-rail.jpg?itok=aFjxfShg\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/sj-rail.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/sj-rail.jpg?itok=aFjxfShg 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"518c159d-8eed-4fdb-b185-5a0a1fecc61c\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Swedish rail company is trialing letting passengers use biometric chips as tickets.
