{"id":33842,"date":"2018-04-29T20:34:10","date_gmt":"2018-04-30T01:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=33842"},"modified":"2018-04-29T20:34:10","modified_gmt":"2018-04-30T01:34:10","slug":"unusual-eruptions-at-worlds-largest-active-geyser-in-yellowstone-stoke-supervolcano-fears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=33842","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Unusual Eruptions&#8221; At World&#8217;s Largest Active Geyser In Yellowstone Stoke &#8220;Supervolcano&#8221; Fears"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"block-zerohedge-page-title\" class=\"block block-core block-page-title-block\">\n<h3 class=\"page-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2018-04-29\/unusual-eruptions-worlds-largest-active-geyser-yellowstone-stoke-supervolcano-fears\"><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">&#8220;Unusual Eruptions&#8221; At World&#8217;s Largest Active Geyser In Yellowstone Stoke &#8220;Supervolcano&#8221; Fears<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-zerohedge-content\" class=\"block block-system block-system-main-block\">\n<article class=\"node node--type-article node--view-mode-full\" role=\"article\">\n<footer class=\"node__meta\"><\/footer>\n<div class=\"node__content\">\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>One month <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2018-03-20\/yellowstone-supervolcano-fears-rise-worlds-largest-active-geyser-erupts-first-time\">after we reported <\/a>that fears of an eruption at the Yellowstone supervolcano continue to grow following the first eruption of the world&#8217;s largest active geyser for the first time since 2014, overnight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-wyoming-geyser\/unusual-eruptions-at-worlds-largest-active-geyser-in-yellowstone-idUSKBN1HZ0W7\">Reuters reported\u00a0 <\/a>of continued <em><strong>&#8220;unusual eruptions&#8221; <\/strong><\/em>at the same location after said giant geyser erupted no less three times in the past six weeks, including once this week.<\/p>\n<p>The good news, according to geologists, is that while the pattern is &#8220;unusual&#8221; it is not indicative of a more destructive volcanic eruption brewing beneath Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news, is that with geological events in Yellowstone increasingly described by even the most &#8220;reputable&#8221; mainstream media and scholars as &#8220;unusual&#8221;, the broader public is having trouble believing that everything is just normal.<\/p>\n<p>This is what happened: <strong>Steamboat Geyser, which can shoot water as high as 300 feet (91 meters) into the air, erupted on March 15, April 19 and on Friday. <\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img\" role=\"group\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-03-20_13-19-58.jpg?itok=IbmCgJI0\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-03-20_13-19-58.jpg?itok=IbmCgJI0\" data-link-option=\"0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-03-20_13-19-58.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_image_desktop\/public\/inline-images\/2018-03-20_13-19-58.jpg?itok=IbmCgJI0 1x\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"283\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"b08c5c8a-b9e3-40a2-81cb-ef48e8de872b\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/a><figcaption><em>Steamboat Geyser<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/the-worlds-largest-active-geyser-in-yellowstone-keeps-g-1825628859\">Bozeman Daily Chronicle adds<\/a>, the Steamboat Geyser eruption on Friday was reported by a park visitor and was estimated to have begun at 6:30 am; that person was likely the only one who witnessed it firsthand, since boardwalks leading to area are closed due to high snowfall <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/the-worlds-largest-active-geyser-in-yellowstone-keeps-g-1825628859\">notes Gizmodo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Why is this unusual? Because the last time it erupted three times in a year was in 2003, the U.S. Geological Survey\u2019s Yellowstone Volcano Observatory said.
