A positive interaction with someone was likely to earn a good score. Upload a picture people don\u2019t like, and one could find his rating downgraded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">As far as television goes, \u201cNosedive\u201d was an insightful bit of art, cleverly panning the fishbowl nature of social media and the timeless human obsession with status. It struck a chord with both viewers and critics, earning an 8.3 rating on IMDB as well as Emmy, BAFTA, and SAG award nominations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body-cont ng-isolate-scope\">\n<div class=\"article-body-text\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9imEN5nPNm8\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The same month the dystopian episode premiered, China updated a policy\u2014&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/chinacopyrightandmedia.wordpress.com\/2016\/09\/25\/opinions-concerning-accelerating-the-construction-of-credit-supervision-warning-and-punishment-mechanisms-for-persons-subject-to-enforcement-for-trust-breaking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Warning and Punishment Mechanisms for Persons Subject to Enforcement for Trust-Breaking<\/a>&#8220;\u2014that bears a striking resemblance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">China\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_Credit_System\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Credit System<\/a>\u201d literally rates its citizens. Those who score well get privileges; those who score poorly do not. A citizen with a high score is likely to enjoy various privileges\u2014high-speed internet,\u00a0the ability to travel freely,\u00a0access to the best restaurants, golf courses and nightclubs\u2014that fellow citizens do not.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s rating scheme is the latest and most expansive effort by central planners to use government to encourage good behavior\u2014or, rather, behavior deemed positive by the Communist Party.
