How to See the Apps Tracking You on Facebook \u2014 and Block Them<\/span><\/h3>\n

(<\/b>ANTIMEDIA<\/b><\/a>)<\/b>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0Following a lengthy\u00a0silence<\/a>\u00a0in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica\u00a0scandal<\/a>, where it was revealed that a data firm was able to obtain personal information from over 50 million Facebook accounts, company CEO Mark Zuckerberg finally\u00a0spoke out<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can\u2019t then we don\u2019t deserve to serve you,\u201d\u00a0<\/i>Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook\u00a0post<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve been working to understand exactly what happened and how to make sure this doesn\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Facebook\u2019s top dog then embarked on a small media\u00a0tour<\/a>, addressing several of the major concerns highlighted by the unsavory affair. While speaking with the\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/i>, for instance, Zuckerberg\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0his company has launched an investigation into third-party developers who are\u00a0\u201cdoing bad things\u201d\u00a0<\/i>with users\u2019 personal data on the Facebook platform.<\/p>\n

But he also admitted that\u00a0\u201clike any security precaution, it\u2019s not that this is a bulletproof solve\u201d<\/i>\u00a0and that no mechanism\u00a0\u201cby itself is ever going to find every single thing.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

While it\u2019s great that the company is taking a proactive step, the effort is not likely to comfort those users who feel their privacy has already been violated. What\u2019s more, Zuckerberg\u00a0conceded<\/a>\u00a0in the interview that the investigation may take months or more to complete.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, options are\u00a0available<\/a>\u00a0to those who refuse to simply wait around while Facebook gets its collective act together.<\/p>\n

For starters, stop using the \u201clog in with Facebook\u201d option after downloading an app. It may take a bit longer to create a new account, but the app won\u2019t get instant access to private information from your Facebook profile, which the company itself\u00a0admits<\/a>\u00a0is what happens.<\/p>\n

For the apps you\u2019re already using, there\u2019s a fairly simple\u00a0process<\/a>\u00a0for managing the types of data they can access. Or, if you prefer, the same process always you to delete the app entirely.<\/p>\n
