{"id":32369,"date":"2018-03-15T09:31:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T14:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=32369"},"modified":"2018-03-15T09:31:54","modified_gmt":"2018-03-15T14:31:54","slug":"loonie-tests-2018-lows-as-canada-existing-home-sales-crash-to-5-year-lows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=32369","title":{"rendered":"Loonie Tests 2018 Lows As Canada Existing Home Sales Crash To 5 Year Lows"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"block-zerohedge-page-title\" class=\"block block-core block-page-title-block\">\n<h3 class=\"page-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2018-03-15\/loonie-tests-2018-lows-canada-existing-home-sales-crash-5-year-lows\"><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Loonie Tests 2018 Lows As Canada Existing Home Sales Crash To 5 Year Lows<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-zerohedge-content\" class=\"block block-system block-system-main-block\">\n<article class=\"node node--type-article node--view-mode-full\" role=\"article\">\n<footer class=\"node__meta\">\n<div class=\"submission-wrapper\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_default_style\" data-a2a-icon-color=\"#222\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/footer>\n<div class=\"node__content\">\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>The Canadian Dollar dropped, testing the lows of 2018, following <a href=\"http:\/\/creastats.crea.ca\/natl\/index.html\">CREA <\/a>data showing<strong> existing home sales crashed to the lowest since 2013<\/strong> and price appreciation slowed dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>Home sales via Canadian MLS\u00ae Systems were down 6.5% in February. <strong>This marks the second consecutive monthly decline following the record set in December 2017 and the lowest reading in nearly five years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/2018-03-15_6-14-50.jpg?itok=i730CpVy\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>February sales were down from the previous month in almost three-quarters of all local housing markets,<\/strong> with large monthly declines in and around Greater Vancouver (GVA) and Greater Toronto (GTA).<\/p>\n<p>Toronto home sales are down 8.2% MoM!<\/p>\n<p>Vancouver home sales are down 15.8% MoM!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Actual (not seasonally adjusted) activity was down 16.9% year-over-year (y-o-y)<\/strong> and hit a five-year low for the month of February. Sales also stood 7% below the 10-year average for the month of February. Sales activity came in below year-ago levels in 80% of all local markets in February, including those nearby and within Ontario&#8217;s Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) region.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;The drop off in sales activity following the record-breaking peak late last year confirms that many homebuyers moved purchase decisions forward late last year before tighter mortgage rules took effect in January,&#8221; <\/strong>said Gregory Klump, CREA&#8217;s Chief Economist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Momentum for home sales activity going into the second quarter is also likely to weighed down by housing market uncertainty in British Columbia, where new housing polices were introduced toward the end of February.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Furthermore, <a href=\"http:\/\/creastats.crea.ca\/natl\/index.html\">CREA notes<\/a> that the Aggregate Composite MLS\u00ae HPI rose by 6.9% y-o-y in February 2018.
