Cumulative world oil production at the end of 2017 was approximately 1.36 trillion barrels (1,360 billion barrels).\u00a0 Since WWII, approximately 95% of the cumulative total global oil production has been produced (See Figure 1 by Jean Laherrere-the top brown line represents global oil production).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3470823 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.resilience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image001.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.resilience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image001.png 835w, http:\/\/www.resilience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image001-280x200.png 280w, http:\/\/www.resilience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image001-768x549.png 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"835\" height=\"597\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jean Laherrere, an international petroleum geologist with over 50 years of experience, had estimated ultimate recoverable oil, excluding extra heavy oil, at approximately 2.2 trillion barrels back in 2013.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good bet that the ultimate recovery of <strong>economically <\/strong>recoverable oil will be less than 3 trillion barrels.\u00a0 At the clip we\u2019re burning oil, we could go through a significant percentage of the remaining economically recoverable oil in the next 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Ugo Bardi makes the case that the actual oil production curve will look more like Figure 2.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3470825 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.resilience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image003.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.resilience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image003.png 320w, http:\/\/www.resilience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image003-304x197.png 304w\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"207\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Figure 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bardi is the author of a Club of Rome produced report titled \u201cExtracted\u201d that reiterated\u00a0the earlier conclusions of the Club of Rome in their \u201cLimits to Growth\u201d report of 1972.
