{"id":31843,"date":"2018-03-03T07:33:21","date_gmt":"2018-03-03T12:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=31843"},"modified":"2018-03-03T07:33:21","modified_gmt":"2018-03-03T12:33:21","slug":"putins-ultimatum-is-the-next-stage-of-the-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=31843","title":{"rendered":"Putin\u2019s Ultimatum is the Next Stage of the\u00a0War"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tomluongo.me\/2018\/03\/02\/putins-ultimatum-is-the-next-stage-of-the-war\/\">Putin\u2019s Ultimatum is the Next Stage of the\u00a0War<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s State of the Union address may be the most important speech since his address to the U.N. in September 2015 on the eve of Russia\u2019s intervening in the War on Syria.<\/p>\n<p>Putin\u2019s sober analysis and admission of demographic constraints on the Russian economy\u2019s growth was welcome.\u00a0 It highlights the real challenges for Russia over the next fifteen years.\u00a0 The shift for those of us analyzing the Russian economy is to look at it purely in terms of per capita growth, not absolute growth.<\/p>\n<p>But, that admission of Putin\u2019s highlights the backdrop of his publicly outing Russia\u2019s new and formidable weapons technology.<\/p>\n<p>That he did this during the height of his re-election campaign should bring a smile to the cynic\u2019s face. Well played, sir.<\/p>\n<p>Now, about those new weapons.\u00a0 I defer to Alex Mercouris at The Duran for the only <a href=\"http:\/\/theduran.com\/6-new-weapons-putin-revealed-state-nation-address\/\">in-depth <\/a>look at these new weapons.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/thesaker.is\/putins-stunning-revelations-about-new-russian-weapons-systems\/\">The Saker<\/a>, who is absolutely one of the best analysts of Russia\u2019s military capabilities, considers these new weapons, \u201cGame, set, match for The Empire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>No More Parallel Aggression<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Putin has played the game very well over the past few years.\u00a0 Employing the strategy of \u2018parallel aggression\u2019 when responding to a U.S. escalation, he\u2019s kept a lid on hostilities in Syria and Ukraine, while grinding out small victories, playing for time.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of these new weapons, however, change that game plan.\u00a0 Putin is now going on the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some early thoughts on what this implies:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Announcing these weapons begs the question, \u201cWhat is Putin\u00a0<em>not telling us about?<\/em>\u201d\u00a0 That should scare many in the Pentagon and civilians who believe the U.S.\u2019s response should be to escalate.<\/li>\n<li>Arming Ukraine with more heavy weapons to take back the Donbass will be countered because there is no reason not to.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Putin\u2019s Ultimatum is the Next Stage of the\u00a0War Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s State of the Union address may be the most important speech since his address to the U.N. in September 2015 on the eve of Russia\u2019s intervening in the War on Syria.
