State Department Committs $40 Million For “Information Wars”<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The Pentagon will allocate $40 million into\u00a0an inter-agency unit housed at the\u00a0State Department to\u00a0counter online propaganda and disinformation campaigns conducted by foreign nations, in an effort to respond “aggressively” to attacks.<\/p>\n

The program was announced by the State Department this week in conjunction with the US Department of Defense, which will allocate the funds to the Global Engagement Center (GEC) – created in spring 2016 to replace the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications (CSCC).<\/p>\n
