{"id":31036,"date":"2018-02-15T07:38:51","date_gmt":"2018-02-15T12:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=31036"},"modified":"2018-02-15T07:38:51","modified_gmt":"2018-02-15T12:38:51","slug":"regime-change-fails-is-a-military-coup-or-invasion-of-venezuela-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=31036","title":{"rendered":"Regime Change Fails: Is A Military Coup or Invasion of Venezuela Next?"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2018\/02\/14\/regime-change-fails-is-a-military-coup-or-invasion-of-venezuela-next\/\">Regime Change Fails: Is A Military Coup or Invasion of Venezuela Next?<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"entry-meta\">The U.S. has employed all of its regime change tools in Venezuela and although so far they have failed, there is still a chance that a military attack is in store, warn\u00a0Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers.<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<hr \/>\n<p>Several signals point to a possible military strike on Venezuela, with high-ranking officials and influential politicians making clear that it is a distinct possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at his alma mater, the University of Texas, on February 1, Secretary of State Tillerson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/tillerson-brings-up-possibility-of-regime-change-in-venezuela\/\">suggested<\/a> a potential military coup in in the country.\u00a0Tillerson then <a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/tillerson-on-latin-american-tour-calling-for-regime-change-in-venezuela\/\">visited allied Latin American countries<\/a>\u00a0urging regime change and more economic sanctions on Venezuela. Tillerson is also reportedly considering banning the processing or sale of Venezuelan oil in the United States and is discouraging other countries from buying Venezuelan oil.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"image-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Venezuela-map.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-25903\" src=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Venezuela-map-300x225.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Venezuela-map-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Venezuela-map-768x575.png 768w, https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Venezuela-map-160x120.png 160w, https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Venezuela-map.png 945w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" data-lazy-loaded=\"true\" \/><\/a>In a series of tweets, Senator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/418357-rubio-calls-military-coup-venezuela\/\">Marco Rubio<\/a>, the Republican from Florida, where many Venezuelan oligarchs live, openly called for a military coup in Venezuela. \u201cThe world would support the Armed Forces in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Venezuela?src=hash\">#Venezuela<\/a> if they decide to protect the people &amp; restore democracy by removing a dictator,\u201d the former presidential candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marcorubio\/status\/961969524630347776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpopularresistance.org%2Fregime-change-fails-is-military-coup-or-invasion-of-venezuela-next%2F\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How absurd \u2014 remove an elected president with a military coup to restore democracy? Does that pass the straight face test? This refrain of Rubio and Tillerson seems to be the nonsensical public position of U.S. policy.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. has been <a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/venezuelas-continuous-coup\/\">seeking regime change<\/a> in Venezuela since Hugo Chavez was elected\u00a0in 1998. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telesurtv.net\/english\/opinion\/Trump-Pursues-Regime-Change-in-Venezuela-20170216-0015.html\">joined Presidents Obama and Bush<\/a> before him in continuing efforts to change the government and put in place a U.S.-friendly oligarch government.<\/p>\n<p>They came closest in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telesurtv.net\/english\/telesuragenda\/Anniversary-of-Venezuelas-2002-Coup--20150411-0022.html\"> 2002 when a military coup removed Chavez.<\/a>\u00a0The Commander-in-Chief of the Venezuelan military announced Chavez had resigned and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pedro_Carmona\">Pedro Carmona<\/a>, of the Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce, became interim president.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regime Change Fails: Is A Military Coup or Invasion of Venezuela Next?
