Within days the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2017\/nov\/08\/donald-trump-illegitimate-president-rebecca-solnit\">received wisdom<\/a> amongst Clinton supporters was that the election had been stolen and that Donald Trump was set to enter the White House as a pawn of the Russian political leadership.
