The focus in recent years has been on mining digital assets, but in the real world mining companies that specialize in essential metals\u00a0like silver and zinc have been warning of massive deficits that, as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RtvTk0TTl5Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SGT Report<\/a><\/strong> notes in a recent interview with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/callinex.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Callinex Mines<\/a> <\/strong>CEO Max Porterfield, could easily lead to supply shortages.<\/p>\n<p>With President Trump recently announcing a national infrastructure budget of over $1 trillion dollars and tensions on the Korean peninsula mounting, prices for base metals could rise sharply in coming months and years. Max Porterfield explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The growing conflict between North Korea and the United States continues to get stronger\u2026 North Korea doesn\u2019t seem to\u00a0be backing down at all\u2026. This is going to potentially have a dramatic impact on the zinc market\u2026 People don\u2019t realize that 55% of refined zinc production comes from three countries\u2026 China, Japan and South Korea\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The zinc market is already very, very tight\u2026 we\u2019re in a supply deficit\u2026 <strong>you look at zinc inventories and those inventories are less than 10 days of\u00a0zinc supply\u2026<\/strong> and it has declined over 85% since 2012\u2026 <strong>we\u2019re at critical levels.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RtvTk0TTl5Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The following chart shows just how much stockpiles are plummeting while demand continues to rise:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-53959\" src=\"http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/30-day-zinc-lme.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/30-day-zinc-lme.jpg 450w, http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/30-day-zinc-lme-300x191.jpg 300w\" alt=\"30-day-zinc-lme\" width=\"450\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In short, one misstep and the entire supply side could run dry.
