The devastation to the electric grid and modern infrastructure could\u00a0<a style=\"color: #7e1416; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/readynutrition.com\/resources\/when-the-grid-goes-down-you-better-be-ready_28102013\/\" target=\"_blank\">impact the lives of more than 100 million<\/a>, and cause untold casualties during prolonged outages.<\/p>\n<p>Homeland Security conducted a study assessing the risks with these extreme solar events (as well as manmade EMPs).<\/p>\n<p>Via\u00a0<a style=\"color: #7e1416; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/dhs-100-million-americans-could-lose-power-in-major-sun-storm\/\" target=\"_blank\">Free Beacon<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #e5e9f3; padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px; margin: 0px 20px 0px 20px;\"><p>DHS\u2019 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) stated in an internal 2012 fact sheet outlining its response plan for severe \u201cspace weather\u201d that the actual impact and damage from a future solar storm is not known.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>The report outlines the scenario for a major \u201ccoronal mass ejection\u201d from the Sun that will first be detected by U.S. satellites.
