Sadly, what people save on petrol bills looks like it\u2019s going to be spent on electricity or tax.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Steve Goreham outlines the international push to get our cars and heaters electrified. But the dark alter-implication of electrification is <em>renewables<\/em>. (No point in driving a coal driven car.) It follows then, that electrification of everything that isn\u2019t already electrificated, will mean more solar, more wind, and then more decimal places on your electricity bill. Welcome to the Bermuda triangle of cost savings in a subsized-mandated-unfree-market. The more you save, the less you have.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We all know wind power is \u201cfree\u201d, but somehow costs seem to keep rising in places with more wind power. <em>It\u2019s so unfair:<\/em><\/div>\n<div><strong>Inconvenient Factoid:\u00a0 Electricity prices in most top \u201cwind\u201d powered US states rose 2 \u2013 7 times faster than in other states<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Read and weep Australians. Pedal faster:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em>\u201c\u2026on average <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/electricity\/monthly\/epm_table_grapher.php?t=epmt_5_3\">US electricity prices<\/a> increased less than<\/em> <strong>five<\/strong> percent<em> during the eight years from 2008 to 2016\u2033<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Some US consumers are still paying rates in single digits.<\/div>\n<div>For contrast, the Australian situation, is pathos and bathos simultaneously:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Australian households are paying <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/business\/mining-energy\/australian-electricity-bills-double-those-of-canada\/news-story\/d14285dabf1a797bc7ca463e4f71857d\">60 per cent more for their power <\/a>than those in the US<\/strong> and <strong>double their Canadian counterparts<\/strong> after enjoying the <em>third-lowest electricity prices of any OECD nation<\/em> a decade ago.\u00a0 \u2014 Simon Benson<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>See the graph.
