{"id":29737,"date":"2018-01-15T07:55:54","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T12:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=29737"},"modified":"2018-01-15T07:55:54","modified_gmt":"2018-01-15T12:55:54","slug":"our-schools-are-doing-too-much-to-save-the-planet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=29737","title":{"rendered":"Our Schools are Doing Too Much to Save the\u00a0Planet"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/regenerativepedagogydotcom.wordpress.com\/2017\/11\/16\/our-schools-are-doing-too-much-to-save-the-planet\/\">Our Schools are Doing Too Much to Save the\u00a0Planet<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Our schools are doing way too much to save the planet.<\/p>\n<p>At first glance this seems a ridiculous thing to say-\u00a0 how could one possibly do too much?\u00a0 The UN has set massive sustainability goals for 2030.\u00a0 Recent articles have outlined the amount of work that will need to be done in order to meet the 2 percent goal for global emissions agreed to by most countries on Earth.\u00a0 It is a staggering goal that no nation is yet set to meet.\u00a0 The immediate reaction to this knowledge is cognitive dissonance- meeting these goals is currently impossible, yet facing the prospects of not getting it done is equally impossible.\u00a0 We react by doing what we can while exclaiming in a panic, \u2018There is so much to do! We must do something!\u2019\u00a0 For a moment, I would like to focus on the verb, \u2018doing\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>In the schools around the area I live I see many things that schools are doing to save the planet; cleaning up beaches, designing solar lights, reducing food and paper waste, planting gardens and\u00a0 creating art installations from garbage.\u00a0\u00a0 How can that be bad?\u00a0 It is certainly positive and well-meaning. It is involved with the environment and building competencies creating solutions.\u00a0 \u00a0It is absolutely not bad to be doing these things, yet I would like to emphasize that by putting \u2018doing\u2019 as the focal point of our efforts to work toward environmental wholeness, we are in fact continuing with \u2018business as usual\u2019 in terms of how we humans have interacted with the planet in the last many hundred years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Schools are Doing Too Much to Save the\u00a0Planet Our schools are doing way too much to save the planet.
