Should you trust everything that you see, even if it comes from someone whom you don\u2019t know well? If you\u2019ve never heard of an article\u2019s publisher, but the headline looks legitimate, is it?<\/p>\n<p id=\"8bb3\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Misinformation comes in many different forms and can cover a wide range of topics. It can take the shape of memes, links, and other forms. And it can range from pop culture to politics or even to critical information during a natural disaster or humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n<p id=\"f7a8\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">We know that the vast majority of people don\u2019t want to share \u201cfalse news.\u201d And we know people want to see accurate information on Facebook, but don\u2019t always know what information or sources to trust\u2014this makes discerning what\u2019s true and what\u2019s false difficult.<\/p>\n<p id=\"f491\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\"><span class=\"markup--quote markup--p-quote is-other\" data-creator-ids=\"anon\">After a year of testing and learning, we\u2019re making a change to how we alert people when they see false news on Facebook.<\/span> As the designer, researcher, and content strategist driving this work, we wanted to share the process of how we got here and the challenges that come with designing against misinformation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"cade\" class=\"graf graf--h3 graf-after--p\"><strong>What We\u00a0Learned<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"bd64\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--h3\">In December of last year, we launched <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.fb.com\/news\/2016\/12\/news-feed-fyi-addressing-hoaxes-and-fake-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.fb.com\/news\/2016\/12\/news-feed-fyi-addressing-hoaxes-and-fake-news\/\">a series of changes to identify and reduce the spread of false news<\/a> in News Feed:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"postList\">\n<li id=\"d804\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--p\">We made it easier for people to report stories they think are false news<\/li>\n<li id=\"9192\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--li\">We partnered with independent fact-checking organizations that review articles that might be false<\/li>\n<li id=\"f84e\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--li\">We reduced the distribution of articles disputed by fact-checkers<\/li>\n<li id=\"665f\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--li\">We launched a collection of features to alert people when fact-checkers have disputed an article, and to let people know if they have shared, or are about to share, false news<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Designing Against Misinformation Updated treatment for misinformation in News Feed using Related\u00a0Articles Scrolling through News Feed, it can be hard to judge what stories are true or false.
