The fear is palpable<\/strong><\/p>\n

How much fun can you have living in a global experiment?\u00a0 In Australia, peak summer is about to hit in a post-Hazelwood-electricity-grid.\u00a0 We\u2019re drowning in electricity news as summer ramps up. Everyday there\u2019s another Grid<\/em> story in the press, and a major effort going on to avoid a meltdown.\u00a0 Minister Josh Frydenberg announced today that \u201cwe\u2019ve done everything possible to prevent mass blackouts\u201d<\/a>. Or as he calls it, a repeat of the South Australian Horror Show.\u00a0\u00a0 Politicians are so afraid of another SA-style-system-black that they are throwing money: The \u201cSnowy Hydro Battery\u201d will be another $2 billion. Whatever. It\u2019s other people\u2019s money.<\/p>\n

This is what they are afraid of:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The red bars mean \u201cReserve Shortfall\u201d. The dark blue matter is \u201cGeneration\u201d. The graph covers two years (sorry about the quality) so the two red bursts are summer 2018 and summer 2019.<\/p>\n

Oddly we are headed for a critical time, but this\u2019s the most recent graph I can find\u00a0 \u2014 thanks to Wattclarity<\/a> \u2013\u00a0 from November 16th, 2017. (Here\u2019s an earlier version from March 2017.<\/a> and from Dec 2016<\/a>). Perhaps there is a newer kinder forecast, but curiously the AEMO Medium Term Outloook<\/a> page isn\u2019t working \u201ctil early 2018\u2033<\/a>. Hmm? Odd time to take it down.<\/p>\n

The words in that top box (rewritten below*) indicate they do a new outlook every two weeks<\/em>, but I can\u2019t find one on the Wayback Machine, or Google Cache. Perhaps you can? Please let me know.<\/p>\n
