Following <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-12-11\/uk-heating-gas-prices-spike-2013-highs-amid-weather-yellow-warning\">extreme weather warnings<\/a> and the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-12-11\/wti-brent-crude-spread-snaps-after-forties-pipeline-closure\"> forties pipeline crack shutdown<\/a>, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-12-12\/u-k-gas-surges-after-explosion-in-austria-tightens-supply\"><strong>explosion at one of the Europe\u2019s biggest gas hubs<\/strong><\/a> further tightened supplies sending gas futures prices up by the most in 8 years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"max-width-video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"fitvid943406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y-FGoCB5JQE\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-12-12\/u-k-gas-surges-after-explosion-in-austria-tightens-supply\"><em>As Bloomberg reports, <\/em><\/a>gas futures rose the most in more than eight years in Britain, which <strong>already is struggling<\/strong> to absorb the impact of a crack that shut down a North Sea pipeline network. After snow fell for two days in London, cooler-than-normal temperatures spread from the Alps to Scandinavia, raising demand for heating fuels.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2017\/12\/08\/20171212_ng1_0.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>An explosion at around 9am at Austria\u2019s main gas pipeline hub, left one person dead and 18 injured,<\/strong> according to police.<\/p>\n<p>The facility about 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Vienna <strong>transports the equivalent of a 10th of Europe\u2019s gas demand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2017\/12\/08\/20171212_ng2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2017\/12\/08\/20171212_ng2_0.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fire engines, ambulances and a rescue helicopter have reportedly been deployed to the area, and all work has been halted at the site.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div>\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Eighteen people are injured and one is dead,&#8221; <\/strong>police chief Markus Haindl said, as quoted by Sputnik.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"max-width-video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"fitvid577479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hx9hw2ylRJE\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>He added that &#8220;technical problems&#8221; caused the explosion, and that there was &#8220;no indication of terrorism.&#8221; <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Several media outlets previously put the number of people injured at around 60.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">\n<div><strong>\u201dIt is the worst possible time for a big gas hub to burn, since capacity is needed ahead of the winter and it changes the expectations of how much gas there will be available,\u201d <\/strong>said Arne Bergvik, the chief analyst at Swedish utility Jamtkraft AB.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>\u201cIf weather turns colder and capacity is unavailable, it will absolutely drive up power prices.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Huge Hub Explosion Sparks Surge In UK NatGas Prices It has been a tough week already for those that heat their homes in Britain (and those that trade Natural Gas).
