In one fell swoop, the leader of our country broke three promises to Canadians and the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 1.3em; margin: 0px 0px 10px 0px;\">For at least seven years, the federal government has been promising to regulate carbon pollution from the oil and gas sector. Canada\u2019s environment minister even said it on the world stage, at the UN climate conference last year in Warsaw. Promise\u2026broken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 1.3em; margin: 0px 0px 10px 0px;\">The Canadian government has also promised to move forward in lock-step with the U.S. on climate change. Contrary to the Prime Minister\u2019s\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" style=\"color: #111111; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/stephen-harper-says-oil-and-gas-regulations-now-would-be-crazy-1.2866306\" target=\"_blank\">statement in the House<\/a>, oil and gas regulations would not be \u201cunilateral.\u201d In 2012, the U.S. put\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" style=\"color: #111111; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.calgaryherald.com\/business\/Harper+calls+regs+crazy+economic+policy+times+cheap\/10453887\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">significant limits<\/a>\u00a0on carbon emissions from its oil and gas sector. Canada is not following the U.S. lead on this. Promise\u2026broken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 1.3em; margin: 0px 0px 10px 0px;\"><a class=\"ext\" style=\"color: #111111; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oag-bvg.gc.ca\/internet\/English\/parl_cesd_201410_01_e_39848.html\" target=\"_blank\">Canada\u2019s environmental commissioner has said<\/a>\u00a0that, without regulating the fast-growing carbon pollution coming from oil and gas facilities, Canada\u2019s 2020 Copenhagen commitment is officially out of reach. So the Prime Minister just ripped up its commitment to the global community too.
