FRIDAY WAS ONE<\/u> of the most embarrassing days for the U.S. media in quite\u00a0a long time. The humiliation orgy was\u00a0kicked off by CNN, with\u00a0MSNBC and CBS close behind,\u00a0with countless pundits, commentators and operatives joining the party throughout the day. By the end of the day, it was clear that\u00a0several of the nation\u2019s largest and most influential news outlets had spread an explosive but completely false\u00a0news story to millions of people, while refusing to provide any explanation of how it happened.<\/p>\n

The spectacle began on Friday morning at\u00a011:00 am EST, when the Most Trusted Name in News\u2122 spent 12 straight minutes on air flamboyantly hyping an exclusive bombshell report that seemed to prove that WikiLeaks, last September, had secretly offered the Trump campaign, even Donald Trump himself, special access to the DNC emails\u00a0before<\/em> they were\u00a0published on the internet. As CNN\u00a0sees the world, this would\u00a0prove collusion between the Trump family and WikiLeaks and, more importantly, between Trump and Russia, since the U.S. intelligence community regards WikiLeaks as an \u201carm of Russian intelligence,\u201d and therefore<\/em>, so does\u00a0the U.S. media.<\/p>\n

This entire revelation\u00a0was based on an email<\/a> which CNN strongly implied it had exclusively obtained and had in its possession. The email was sent\u00a0by someone named \u201cMichael J. Erickson\u201d \u2013 someone nobody had heard of previously and whom CNN could not identify \u2013 to Donald Trump, Jr., offering a decryption key and access to DNC emails that WikiLeaks had \u201cuploaded.\u201d<\/p>\n
