{"id":28511,"date":"2017-12-02T15:46:11","date_gmt":"2017-12-02T20:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=28511"},"modified":"2017-12-02T15:46:11","modified_gmt":"2017-12-02T20:46:11","slug":"teslas-semi-truck-would-require-energy-of-4000-homes-to-recharge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=28511","title":{"rendered":"Tesla&#8217;s Semi-Truck Would Require Energy Of 4,000 Homes To Recharge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-11-29\/teslas-semi-truck-would-require-energy-4000-homes-recharge\">Tesla&#8217;s Semi-Truck Would Require Energy Of 4,000 Homes To Recharge<\/a><\/h3>\n<section class=\"node node-type-story node-full node-nid-608194\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>Elon Musk\u2019s reliance on shock-and-awe tactics and unjustifiably lofty performance projections is creating serious problems for the so-called visionary as <strong>a growing number of experts have come forward to explain that many of his claims would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-11-25\/elon-musk-lied-about-performance-targets-new-tesla-roadster-semi-truck\">defy the laws of physics.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The latest group to call bulls&#8212; is Aurora Energy Research, a European consultancy which estimated that Tesla\u2019s electric haulage truck will require the same energy as up to 4,000 homes to recharge \u2013 a stunning claim that would seem to raise serious questions about the projects viability, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/f5593480-d29a-11e7-8c9a-d9c0a5c8d5c9\">Financial Times.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user245717\/imageroot\/2017\/11\/20\/2017.11.29batteries.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user245717\/imageroot\/2017\/11\/20\/2017.11.29batteries_0.JPG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to these scientists, modern battery technology is incapable of supporting anything close to the 30-minute charging time Musk has promised for the new Tesla semi-truck.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>The US electric carmaker unveiled a battery-powered truck earlier this month, promising haulage drivers they could add 400 miles of charge in as little as 30 minutes using a new \u201cmegacharger\u201d to be made by the company.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John Feddersen, chief executive of Aurora Energy Research, a consultancy set up in 2013 by a group of Oxford university professors, said the power required for the megacharger to fill a battery in that amount of time would be 1,600 kilowatts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That is the equivalent of providing 3,000-4,000 \u201caverage\u201d houses, he told a London conference last week, 10 times as powerful as Tesla\u2019s current network of \u201csuperchargers\u201d for its electric cars.<\/strong> Tesla declined to comment on the calculations.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk, Tesla\u2019s chief executive, has previously said the megachargers would be solar-powered but the company has not confirmed whether they will also have a grid connection for when it is not sunny.<\/p>\n<p>Many of Tesla\u2019s current superchargers are powered in part by renewable energy.
