The debate will continue to be about <em>how much<\/em> should be stolen from <em>whom<\/em> and for what <em>purpose<\/em> \u2013 rather than about whether <em>anything<\/em> should be stolen by <em>anyone<\/em> for <em>any<\/em> purpose.<\/p>\n<p>As things are, many people believe it <em>is<\/em> ok to steal from others \u2013 provided the stealing is done on their behalf by other people (these are called \u201ctax collectors\u201d) and the stolen goods are called by pleasant but intellectually dishonest, morally evasive names (examples include<em> Social Security, welfare, foreign aid, grants<\/em> and so on).<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/2017\/11\/27\/what-we-can-do\/collectivism\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-59184\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-59184 td-animation-stack-type0-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/collectivism-300x225.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/collectivism-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/collectivism-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/collectivism-265x198.jpg 265w, https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/collectivism.jpg 480w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Using this technique of doublethink, people are able to do things to other people \u2013 or urge they be done to other people, on their behalf \u2013 without feeling ashamed or guilty, as they would if they were to do these things themselves, personally.<\/p>\n<p>This \u201csurgical excision\u201d of the psychologically normal human revulsion for other-than-defensive violence and for the use of violence to take things from others is the keystone of the coercive collectivist system. Dislodge it and the whole edifice collapses.<\/p>\n<p>It is that simple \u2013 and that hard.<\/p>\n<p>Simple, because the moral principle is <em>already<\/em> established.<\/p>\n<p>Excluding psychological defectives \u2013 the relatively small population in every society that does<em> not<\/em> feel ashamed or guilty about the use of violence (these people are called \u201ccriminals\u201d) <em>most people <\/em>do feel ashamed and guilty when they steal or resort to violence.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/2017\/11\/27\/what-we-can-do\/doublethink\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-59185\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-59185 td-animation-stack-type0-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/doublethink-300x141.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/doublethink-300x141.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/doublethink-768x361.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/doublethink-696x328.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.ericpetersautos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/doublethink.jpg 850w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And hence, <em>most people do not steal or resort to violence<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It is a broadly accepted moral principle that theft and violence are wrong things; that those who steal and threaten to harm others in order to get what they want are not good people.
