{"id":28416,"date":"2017-11-29T08:21:35","date_gmt":"2017-11-29T13:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=28416"},"modified":"2017-11-29T08:21:35","modified_gmt":"2017-11-29T13:21:35","slug":"privacy-alert-hp-quietly-installs-system-slowing-spyware-on-its-pcs-without-consent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=28416","title":{"rendered":"PRIVACY ALERT: HP Quietly Installs System-Slowing Spyware On Its PCs Without Consent"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shtfplan.com\/headline-news\/privacy-alert-hp-quietly-installs-system-slowing-spyware-on-its-pcs-without-consent_11282017\">PRIVACY ALERT: HP Quietly Installs System-Slowing Spyware On Its PCs Without Consent<\/a><\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-51737\" src=\"http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/ai-hp-e1511884702965.png\" alt=\"ai-hp\" width=\"560\" height=\"327\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the heels of\u00a0Lenovo\u2019s massive $3.5 million fine for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/09\/05\/lenovo-superfish-vsualdiscovery-ftc-complaint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">preinstalling\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/09\/05\/lenovo-superfish-vsualdiscovery-ftc-complaint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adware on laptops without users<\/a>\u2018 consent,\u00a0Hewlett-Packard is jumping in with both feet when it comes to installing spyware on its PCs without the consumer\u2019s permission.<\/p>\n<div class=\"o-article_block pb-15 pb-5@m- o-subtle_divider\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+__cell col-8-of-12@tl+\">\n<div class=\"article-text c-gray-1\">\n<p>According to numerous reports gathered by\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/article\/3238512\/microsoft-windows\/hp-stealthily-installs-new-spyware-called-hp-touchpoint-analytics-client.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Computer World,<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>the brand is deploying a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/windows-10-telemetry-secrets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">telemetry client<\/a>\u00a0(a system data that is uploaded by the Connected User Experience and Telemetry component), on customer computers without asking permission.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"js-notMobileReferredByFbTw\">\n<div class=\"o-article_block pb-15 pb-5@m- mt-n35 mt-n25@m mt-n15@s\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+\">\n<div class=\"full-width@tp- grid@tl+__cell col-8-of-12@tl+\">\n<div class=\"article-text c-gray-1 no-review\">\n<p>The software, which was first identified on November 15 of this year, is called <a href=\"https:\/\/h30434.www3.hp.com\/t5\/Desktop-Software-and-How-To-Questions\/I-Didn-t-Install-HP-TouchpointAnalyticsClient-and-It-s\/td-p\/6427652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cHP Touchpoint Analytics Service\u201d<\/a> and appears to replace the self-managed HP Touchpoint Manager solution. According to the official productivity description, it features \u201cthe tools you need to ensure all your managed devices\u2019 security \u2014 and brings you greater peace of mind\u201d. <strong>The problem is, it\u2019s installing itself without permission and is wreaking havoc on customers\u2019 systems.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And the consumers are noticing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On 11\/18\/2017 Hp Touchpoint Analytics Client was installed on my computer without my concent, I\u2019m assuming it was installed in the background as an update to Hp support or framework. However it happened I don\u2019t appreciate it\u2019s sneaky take over of my computer\u2019s system resources. From yesterday to today it\u2019s been making my computer work so hard I can hear it like cranking away and the light in the back of my computer is flashing rapidly in-tune with the cranking. \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/h30434.www3.hp.com\/t5\/Desktop-Software-and-How-To-Questions\/I-Didn-t-Install-HP-TouchpointAnalyticsClient-and-It-s\/td-p\/6427652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>HP Forum<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>HP has not released an official response to the complaints either and it\u2019s not yet clear how the new driver is being installed.
