It also continues to pump from a nearby well in Erin, Ontario despite that permit having expired on August 31, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Ontario government has the power to step in and stop this but to date has refused to do so. Nor has the Wynne government made Nestl\u00e9\u2019s renewal applications public or held public consultations on them. It is obligated to consult with the public and obtain free, prior and informed consent from Indigenous peoples on any water taking permits, including Nestl\u00e9\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Two-thirds of people <a href=\"https:\/\/canadians.org\/media\/poll-majority-ontarians-want-nestl%C3%A9-sell-well-local-community\">polled<\/a> in Ontario want the provincial government to phase out permits for bottled water takings altogether. It\u2019s time for individuals and communities to come together and push for this.
