It seems that every report on climate conditions has one thing in common: things are worse than predicted. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/climate-emergency-greenhouse-gas-levels-surge-to-historic-levels\/\">World Meteorological Report<\/a>\u00a0from the end of October shows that Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) are rising at a rapid rate and have passed 400 parts per million. According to Dr. Kevin Trenberth of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, \u201cthe changes we\u2019re making today are occurring in 100 years, whereas in nature they occur in 10,000 years.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"post_content\">\n<p>The United States is experiencing a wide range of climate impacts from major hurricanes in the South to unprecedented numbers of wildfires in the West to crop-destroying drought in the Mid-West. In October, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/gao-climate-change-already-costing-us-billions-in-losses\/\">General Accounting Office reported<\/a>\u00a0that the US has spent over $350 billion in the last decade on disaster relief and crop insurance, not counting this year\u2019s hurricanes. These costs will continue and rise.<\/p>\n<p>We are past the time to make a major commitment to\u00a0the transformation we need to mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis. Imagine the benefits that such a commitment would have in creating a cleaner environment, better health and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/100-renewable-is-feasible-and-more-cost-effective-now\/\">more jobs<\/a>\u00a0and, if structured in a way that is democratized and benefits the public, in ending\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/the-brutal-racial-politics-of-climate-change-and-pollution\/\">environmental racism<\/a>\u00a0and economic injustice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Climate talks in Germany<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 23rd session of climate talks is taking place right now in Bonn, Germany. The United States\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/u-s-submits-formal-notice-of-withdrawal-from-paris-climate-pact\/\">formally withdrew<\/a>\u00a0from its commitment to the Paris climate treaty, but delegations of people from the US are in attendance to show their commitment to addressing the climate crisis. A group of organizations, such as 350.org and Indigenous Environmental Network,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/popularresistance.org\/us-peoples-delegation-announces-its-platform-at-cop23\/\">presented their climate platform<\/a>\u00a0as \u201cthe people\u2019s delegation.\u201d They are calling for a just transition to a fossil-free future and an end to market schemes to offset carbon use.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People Act Where US Fails On Climate The climate crisis is upon us.
