No, the Times editors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/11\/05\/opinion\/jack-martins-long-island-ad.html?_r=0\">are accusing<\/a> a Long Island Republican of McCarthyism for linking his Democratic rival to \u201cNew York City special interest groups.\u201d As the Times laments, \u201cIt\u2019s the old guilt by association.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6559\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a class=\"image-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/josephmccarthy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6559\" src=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/josephmccarthy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"299\" data-lazy-loaded=\"true\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sen. Joseph McCarthy, R-Wisconsin, who led the \u201cRed Scare\u201d hearings of the 1950s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Yet, the Times sees no McCarthyism in the frenzy of Russia-bashing and guilt by association for any American who can be linked even indirectly to any Russian who might have some ill-defined links to Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, in the same edition that expressed editorial outrage over that Long Island political ad\u2019s McCarthyism, the Times ran two front-page articles under the headline: \u201cA Complex Paper Trail: Blurring Kremlin\u2019s Ties to Key U.S. Businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two subheads read: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/11\/05\/world\/wilbur-ross-russia.html\">Shipping Firm Links Commerce Chief to Putin \u2018Cronies\u2019<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/11\/05\/world\/yuri-milner-facebook-twitter-russia.html\">Millions in Facebook Shares Rooted in Russian Cash<\/a>.\u201d The latter story, which meshes nicely with the current U.S. political pressure on Facebook and Twitter to get in line behind the New Cold War against Russia, cites investments by Russian Yuri Milner that date back to the start of the decade.<\/p>\n<p>Buried in the story\u2019s \u201cjump\u201d is the acknowledgement that Milner\u2019s \u201ccompanies sold those holdings several years ago.\u201d But such is the anti-Russia madness gripping the Establishment of Washington and New York that any contact with any Russian constitutes a scandal worthy of front-page coverage. On Monday, The Washington Post published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/at-least-nine-people-in-trumps-orbit-had-contact-with-russians-during-campaign-and-transition\/2017\/11\/05\/07c9993c-bf4c-11e7-959c-fe2b598d8c00_story.html?utm_term=.0df7b5984f3e\">a page-one article<\/a>entitled, \u201c9 in Trump\u2019s orbit had contacts with Russians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learning to Love McCarthyism Special Report: Many American liberals who once denounced McCarthyism as evil are now learning to love the ugly tactic when it can be used to advance the Russia-gate \u201cscandal\u201d and silence dissent, reports Robert Parry.
