But this was an important part of why Americans were there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rostow\u2019s rise<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"align-right zoomable\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.theconversation.com\/files\/187075\/area14mp\/file-20170921-20964-rah2xq.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.theconversation.com\/files\/187075\/width237\/file-20170921-20964-rah2xq.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Rostow, left, looks over a map with Gen.
