Ever?\u201d The ink was barely dry the cover of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/2017\/08\/22\/los-angeles-dodgers-justin-turner\">our Aug. 28 <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/2017\/08\/22\/los-angeles-dodgers-justin-turner\">issue<\/a>\u2014which hit newsstands Aug. 23, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/2017\/08\/23\/best-team-ever-dodgers-cubs-yankees-mariners\">a corresponding comparison<\/a> to the greatest teams in history online\u2014when the Dodgers fell into a tailspin that they have yet to escape. Through Aug. 25, they had gone 91-36 for a .717 winning percentage, which put them on a 116-win pace, good enough to tie the 2001 Mariners for the highest total of the 162-game expansion era. Since then, they\u2019ve lost 10 of 11 to the Brewers, Diamondbacks and Padres, and while they still have an ample cushion to win the NL West and wrap up homefield advantage in the National League playoffs, they\u2019ve shown that even if the infamous Sports Illustrated cover jinx is a myth, this squad is hardly invincible.\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/2017\/09\/06\/los-angeles-dodgers-losing-streak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sports Ilustrated, September 6<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx A Myth?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We disagree.<\/p>\n<p>Teams, players, politicians, companies,\u00a0 markets or, whatever or whoever, always seem to be cover stories either at at their peak or nadir.\u00a0\u00a0 For sure,\u00a0 the Dodgers 51-9 winning stretch was unsustainable, and the law of averages had to kick in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Black Swans Are Rare <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We do admit there are on rare occasions when Black Swans come along that defy all probabilities and shatter age old records.\u00a0 Rarely.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Asset Markets, The Sports Illustrated Jinx, And The\u00a0Dodgers Why do stocks and assets markets crash?
