As India GDP Growth Slumps To 2-Year Lows<\/a><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<section class=\"node node-type-story node-full node-nid-602752 ads-injected\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>India&#8217;s embattled Prime Minister Narendra Modi faced a double whammy of abuse this week as <strong>his nation&#8217;s economic growth collapsed to its weakest since Q1 2014<\/strong> and India&#8217;s Central Bank released a report on Modi&#8217;s extraordinary &#8220;demonitization&#8221; plan last year showing that <strong>99 per cent of the high denomination banknotes cancelled last year were deposited or exchanged for new currency, crushing Modi&#8217;s lie that his contentious &#8216;war on cash&#8217; would wipe out huge amounts of so-called &#8216;black money&#8217;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2017\/08\/31\/20170901_india1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2017\/08\/31\/20170901_india1.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When Modi announced in November that Rs1,000 ($16) and Rs500 notes would no longer be legal tender, <strong>he suggested that corrupt officials, businessmen and criminals \u2014 popularly believed to hoard large amounts of illicit cash \u2014 would be stuck with \u201cworthless pieces of paper\u201d. <\/strong>At the time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/7dbe0e14-8d8a-11e7-a352-e46f43c5825d?segmentId=778a3b31-0eac-c57a-a529-d296f5da8125\">government officials had suggested that as much as one-third of India\u2019s outstanding currency would be\u00a0purged from the economy<\/a> &#8211;
