It did not make the final cut and as a result continues to be defined by the authority as \u2018<em>a <\/em><em>portmanteau<\/em><em>, made from combining shrink: \u2018<\/em><em>to become or make smaller in size\u2019<\/em><em>, with the economic sense of inflation: \u2018<\/em><em>a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In order for a word to be accepted into the OED it must have been in use for at least five years. But the latest list suggests that this isn\u2019t the case and exceptions can be made.
