(Photo from Wikipedia)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The New York Times, one of the top promoters of this new Orwellian model for censorship, devoted two-thirds of a page in its Tuesday editions to a laudatory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/05\/01\/business\/europe-election-fake-news.html\">piece<\/a> about high-tech entrepreneurs refining artificial intelligence that can hunt down and eradicate supposedly \u201cfake news.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To justify this draconian strategy, the Times cited only a \u201cfake news\u201d report claiming that the French establishment\u2019s preferred presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-03-09\/fake-news-campaign-targeted-french-election-frontrunner-macron\">received funding from Saudi Arabia<\/a>, a bogus story published by a Web site that mimicked the appearance of the newspaper Le Soir and was traced back to a Delaware phone number.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, while such intentionally fabricated articles as well as baseless conspiracy theories are a bane of the Internet \u2013 and do deserve hearty condemnation \u2013 the Times gives no thought to the potential downside of having a select group of mainstream journalistic entities feeding their judgment about what is true and what is not into some algorithms that would then scrub the Internet of contrary items.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NYT Cheers the Rise of Censorship Algorithms Exclusive: The New York Times is cheering on the Orwellian future for Western \u201cdemocracy\u201d in which algorithms quickly hunt down and eliminate information that the Times and other mainstream outlets don\u2019t like, reports Robert Parry.
