Noam Chomsky Calls Obsession With Russia Conspiracy Theories \u2018A Joke\u2019<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n

During a recent interview with Democracy Now<\/em><\/a>, Noam Chomsky demonstrated what everyone with a clear head and capacity for critical thought should already know. Just because you have a strong dislike for Donald Trump, doesn\u2019t mean you latch on like a lunatic to every nonsensical Russia conspiracy theory because you\u2019re still crying about Hillary\u2019s loss.<\/p>\n

As Noam Chomsky accurately\u00a0states:<\/p>\n

JUAN<\/span>\u00a0GONZ\u00c1LEZ:<\/strong>\u00a0Noam Chomsky, I\u2019d like to ask you about something that\u2019s been in the news a lot lately. Obviously, all the cable channels, that\u2019s all they talk about these days, is the whole situation of Russia\u2019s supposed intervention in American elections. For a country that\u2019s intervened in so many governments and so many elections around the world, that\u2019s kind of a strange topic. But I know you\u2019ve referred to this as a joke. Could you give us your view on what\u2019s happening and why there\u2019s so much emphasis on this particular issue?<\/em><\/p>\n

NOAM<\/span>\u00a0CHOMSKY<\/span>:<\/strong>\u00a0It\u2019s a pretty remarkable fact that\u2014first of all, it is a joke. Half the world is cracking up in laughter. The United States doesn\u2019t just interfere in elections. It overthrows governments it doesn\u2019t like, institutes military dictatorships. Simply in the case of Russia alone\u2014it\u2019s the least of it\u2014the U.S. government, under Clinton, intervened quite blatantly and openly, then tried to conceal it, to get their man Yeltsin in, in all sorts of ways. So, this, as I say, it\u2019s considered\u2014it\u2019s turning the United States, again, into a laughingstock in the world.<\/em><\/p>\n

So why are the Democrats focusing on this? In fact, why are they focusing so much attention on the one element of Trump\u2019s programs which is fairly reasonable, the one ray of light in this gloom: trying to reduce tensions with Russia?<\/strong>That\u2019s\u2014the tensions on the Russian border are extremely serious.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
