{"id":23182,"date":"2017-03-09T15:16:14","date_gmt":"2017-03-09T20:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=23182"},"modified":"2017-03-09T15:16:14","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T20:16:14","slug":"putins-ears-must-be-burning-a-report-on-the-banality-of-propaganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=23182","title":{"rendered":"Putin\u2019s Ears Must be Burning: a Report on the Banality of Propaganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"headline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/2017\/03\/09\/putins-ears-must-be-burning-a-report-on-the-banality-of-propaganda\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">Putin\u2019s Ears Must be Burning: a Report on the Banality of Propaganda<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"post_content\">\n<p>I sometimes wonder what \u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d must make of the Western media obsession with him.<\/p>\n<p>Do his ears burn each day with all the new articles, broadcasts, social media mentions \u2013 the myriad voices, guided by the Western political and media establishments, speculating, characterizing, creating \u2013 \u201cPutin\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>It is unlikely that \u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d is indifferent to the \u201cPutin\u201d spectacle as there are often statements by his proxies or himself that deny or contest reports in the Western press \u2013 or, request never-forthcoming evidence to back up incessant and unsubstantiated allegations.<\/p>\n<p>\u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d has been meticulously translated into the lifeworld of Western alphabets as caricature, a larger than life, Hollywood nemesis, woven out of an echo chamber of narrative clich\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>As with other mythological creatures, the poets elaborate the \u201cPutin\u201d tapestry by which we interpret the world.\u00a0 This\u00a0<em>mythos<\/em>, distinct from the disinterested integrity of knowledge, operates unconsciously, at the level of mass psychology, amidst the\u00a0<em>zeitgeist<\/em>.\u00a0 In this context, \u201cPutin\u201d becomes a trigger word for a nexus of prescribed, automatic feeling.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, the conjuration of \u201cPutin\u201d is orchestrated according to the desires of the prevailing configuration of Western political power \u2013 and not by evidentiary truth.\u00a0 It is not meant to reveal \u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d, but to disseminate \u201cwords that kill\u201d that will erase him and his lifeworld.<\/p>\n<p>\u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d, although under the persistent threat of erasure, has nonetheless defied Western attempts to control the narrative with traditional publicity, asymmetrical communication strategies and \u201cmajor power\u201d projections of global influence.\u00a0 Russia\u2019s intensifying alliance with China and the BRICS nations has moreover provided, for the first time in seven decades, a glimpse of a novel multi-polar, polycentric world order dedicated to peaceful development and respect for national sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Putin\u2019s Ears Must be Burning: a Report on the Banality of Propaganda I sometimes wonder what \u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d must make of the Western media obsession with him.
