{"id":22897,"date":"2017-02-21T20:06:51","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T01:06:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=22897"},"modified":"2017-02-21T20:06:51","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T01:06:51","slug":"the-new-wave-of-violent-protests-is-exactly-what-the-elite-want-heres-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=22897","title":{"rendered":"The New Wave of Violent Protests is Exactly What The Elite Want \u2014 Here\u2019s Why"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"name post-title entry-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thefreethoughtproject.com\/violent-protests-elite\/\">The New Wave of Violent Protests is Exactly What The Elite Want \u2014 Here\u2019s Why<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Over the past 18 months, there has been a significant increase in the frequency and severity of riots conducted by the extreme left.\u00a0 Their ranks are comprised of self-described anti-fascists,\u00a0 anarcho-communists, radical 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0wave feminists, Black Lives Matter (BLM), and other social justice warriors (SJWs).\u00a0 They have attained great notoriety through their willingness to employ violence\/intimidation, vandalize\/loot private property, and engage in the very same behavior they accuse their ideological opponents of perpetrating.\u00a0 Tragically, innocent and non-interested bystanders often get caught in the cross hairs whilst they throw their violent temper tantrums.\u00a0 To add further cause for concern, these otherwise marginal groups are coalescing under the banner of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Intersectionality\">intersectionality<\/a>\u201d thereby effecting a swelling of their ranks, temerity, and menace.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>However, there is cause for hope as Professor Matthew Feinberg of the University of Toronto recently published a study confirming \u201cextreme protest tactics reduce popular support for social movements.\u201d\u00a0<strong>Violent and destructive protests render peaceful protestors inept and guilty by association.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following summarizes the results of the study in greater detail:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSocial movements are critical agents of change that vary greatly in both tactics and popular support. Prior work shows that extreme protest tactics \u2013 actions that are highly counter-normative, disruptive, or harmful to others, including inflammatory rhetoric, blocking traffic, and damaging property \u2013 are effective for gaining publicity. However, we find across<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2l8vggl)\">\u00a0three experiments<\/a>\u00a0that extreme protest tactics decreased popular support for a given cause because they reduced feelings of identification with the movement.
