Clearly most of the IPCC models are unrealistic.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/energyskeptic.com\/category\/fastcrash\/extinction-collapse\/but-not-from-climate-change-peak-fossil-fuels\/\">The IPCC greatly exaggerates the amount of oil and coal reserves as well<\/a>. Source:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.postcarbon.org\/our-people\/david-hughes\/\">David Hughes<\/a>\u00a0(private communication)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is an extract of Ugo Bardi\u2019s must read \u201cExtracted\u201d about the limits of production of uranium.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Many well-meaning citizens favor nuclear power because it doesn\u2019t emit greenhouse gases.\u00a0 The problem is that the Achilles heel of civilization is our dependency on trucks of all kinds, which run on diesel fuel because diesel engines transformed our civilization with their ability to do heavy work better than steam, gasoline, or any other kind of engine.\u00a0 Trucks are required to keep the supply chains going that every person and business on earth require, from food to the materials and construction of the roads they run on, as well as mining, agriculture, construction trucks, logging etc.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Nuclear power plants are not a solution, since\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/energyskeptic.com\/category\/decline\/transportation-a-1000-cuts\/trucks\/electric-trucks\/\">trucks can\u2019t run on electricity<\/a>, so anything that generates electricity is not a solution, nor is it likely that the electric grid can ever be 100% renewable (read \u201cWhen trucks stop running\u201d, this can\u2019t be explained in a sound-bite).\u00a0 And we certainly aren\u2019t going to be able to replace a billion trucks and equipment with diesel engines by the time the energy crunch hits with something else, there is nothing else.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Alice Friedemann\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.energyskeptic.com\/\"><em>www.energyskeptic.com<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0\u00a0author of \u201c<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/energyskeptic.com\/2016\/when-trucks-stop-running-so-does-civilization\/\"><em>When Trucks Stop Running: Energy and the Future of Transportation<\/em><\/a><em>\u201d, 2015, Springer and \u201c<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Crunch-Whole-Grain-Artisan-Crackers\/dp\/148192267X\/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1366846159&amp;sr=1-2&amp;keywords=friedemann+crunch\"><em>Crunch!
