Or even opposed to any two of these seven wars? How about one?<\/p>\n<p>In 1968, six years into the Vietnam War, the\u00a0Boston Globe\u00a0(Feb. 18, 1968) surveyed the editorial positions of 39 leading U.S. papers concerning the war and found that \u201cnone advocated a pull-out.\u201d Has the phrase \u201cinvasion of Vietnam\u201d ever appeared in the U.S. mainstream media?<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, leading cable station MSNBC took the much-admired Phil Donahue off the air because of his opposition to the calls for war in Iraq.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>There are seven reasons that the mainstream media and many of the largest \u201calternative\u201d media websites are all pro-war.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Self-Censorship by Journalists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">There is tremendous self-censorship by journalists.<\/p>\n<p>A survey by the Pew Research Center and the\u00a0<em>Columbia Journalism Review<\/em>\u00a0in 2000\u00a0<a title=\"found\" href=\"http:\/\/www.people-press.org\/2000\/04\/30\/self-censorship-how-often-and-why\/\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Self-censorship is commonplace in the news media today \u2026. About one-quarter of the local and national journalists say they have purposely avoided newsworthy stories, while nearly as many acknowledge they have softened the tone of stories to benefit the interests of their news organizations. Fully four-in-ten (41%) admit they have engaged in either or both of these practices.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span id=\"more-63687\"><\/span>Similarly, a 2003 survey reveals that 35% of reporters and news executives themselves admitted that journalists avoid newsworthy stories if\u00a0<a title=\"\u201cthe story would be embarrassing or damaging to the financial interests of a news organization\u2019s owners or parent company.\u201d\" href=\"http:\/\/www.law.fsu.edu\/faculty\/2003-2004workshops\/taha.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cthe story would be embarrassing or damaging to the financial interests of a news organization\u2019s owners or parent company.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several months after 9\/11, Dan Rather\u00a0<a title=\"told\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/pressoffice\/pressreleases\/stories\/2002\/05_may\/16\/dan_rather.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a>\u00a0the BBC that American reporters were practicing \u201ca form of self-censorship\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>7 Reasons that the Corporate Media Is Pro-War Why There Is So Much Pro-War Reporting?
