{"id":21924,"date":"2016-10-01T18:13:11","date_gmt":"2016-10-01T23:13:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=21924"},"modified":"2016-10-01T18:13:11","modified_gmt":"2016-10-01T23:13:11","slug":"a-conspiracy-theory-about-conspiracy-theories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=21924","title":{"rendered":"A conspiracy theory about conspiracy theories"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freemansperspective.com\/a-conspiracy-theory-about-conspiracy-theories\/\">A CONSPIRACY THEORY ABOUT CONSPIRACY THEORIES<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7077\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freemansperspective.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ConspiracyTheories-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"conspiracytheories\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the funny things about conspiracy theories, including\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2016-09-13\/false-flag-terror-\" target=\"_blank\">false flag attacks<\/a>, is how often they are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/listverse.com\/2013\/05\/02\/10-nefarious-conspiracies-proven-true\/\" target=\"_blank\">proven to be true<\/a>. You have to wonder how long the shame-inducing slam, \u201cThat\u2019s a conspiracy theory,\u201d will keep working.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not my point for today. Today, I want to introduce a conspiracy theory of my own, a conspiracy theory about conspiracy theories. Here it is:<\/p>\n<p>The powers that be \u2013 the elite, the deep state, whomever \u2013\u00a0<em>want<\/em>\u00a0wild conspiracy theories to spread. Because after these wild theories set the \u201coutrage meter\u201d very high, they can get away with almost anything below that line.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, wild theories ensure that the\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cI\u2019ll act if I see that\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0trigger is never reached and Joe Average remains docile, even as he is progressively abused.<\/p>\n<p>I hope I haven\u2019t given any nefarious people ideas, but I think this is already happening. And in any event, I\u2019m fairly certain it\u2019s worth pointing out.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A Second Theory<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There is a second reason for the lords of the status quo to love conspiracy theories, which is that such theories make it easy to discredit troublesome ideas.<\/p>\n<p>For example, we now know \u2013 thank you again, Edward Snowden \u2013 that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2014-02-24\/conspiracy-theory-true-agents-infiltrate-websites-intending-manipulate-deceive-and-d\" target=\"_blank\">government agents are infiltrating websites<\/a>\u00a0to sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt, as well as to destroy reputations.<\/p>\n<p>So, rather than just pulling out the usual manipulation to discredit a troublesome idea (\u201cconspiracy theory!\u201d), why not tie it to some really nasty racist crap?<\/p>\n<p>Lots of people have avoided discussions of the Federal Reserve, for example, because trolls attached to the discussions demonize Jews.
