RAND PAUL\u2019S\u00a0expression of opposition\u00a0to a $1.1 billion U.S. arms sale to Saudi Arabia \u2014 which has been brutally bombing civilian targets in Yemen using U.S.-made weapons for more than a year now \u2014 alarmed CNN\u2019s Wolf Blitzer on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Blitzer\u2019s concern: That\u00a0stopping the sale could\u00a0result in fewer jobs for arms manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo for you this is a moral issue,\u201d he told Paul during the Kentucky Republican\u2019s appearance on CNN. \u201cBecause you know, there\u2019s a lot of jobs at stake. Certainly if a lot of these defense contractors stop selling war planes, other sophisticated equipment to Saudi Arabia, there\u2019s going to be a significant loss of jobs, of revenue here in the United States. That\u2019s secondary from your standpoint?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul stayed on message. \u201cWell not only is it a moral question, its a constitutional question,\u201d Paul said. \u201cOur founding fathers very directly and specifically did not give the president the power to go to war. They gave it to Congress. The U.S.-backed bombing coalition has been\u00a0accused of intentionally targeting civilians, hospitals, factories, markets, schools, and homes. The situation is so bad that the Red Cross has started\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2016\/08\/25\/the-death-toll-in-yemen-is-so-high-the-red-cross-has-started-donating-morgues-to-hospitals\/\">donating morgue units<\/a>\u00a0to Yemeni hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>The war\u2019s incredible humanitarian toll has generated an increasing outcry in the United States.
