The Times also mentions the president\u2019s successes in putting the Clean Power Plan\u00a0in place and his role in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2016\/09\/03\/us-china-formally-join-paris-agreement\" target=\"_blank\">committing\u00a0the United States to the Paris climate agreement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/09\/08\/us\/politics\/obama-climate-change.html?_r=2\" target=\"_blank\">President Obama also attempted to explain<\/a>\u00a0why\u00a0getting through to people on climate change can be so challenging, as The Times\u00a0noted:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>What makes climate change difficult is that it is not an instantaneous catastrophic event,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a slow-moving issue that, on a day-to-day basis, people don\u2019t experience and don\u2019t\u00a0see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Climate change, Mr. Obama often says, is the greatest long-term threat facing the world, as well as a danger already manifesting itself as droughts, storms, heat waves and flooding.
