US Veterans Join Petition for Snowden<\/a><\/h3>\n

Lisa Lynn, a retired Air Force Sergeant and former U.S. Drone Program Operative, has joined a petition campaign to get the Norwegian government to shield National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden from extradition so he can receive Norwegian PEN\u2019s Ossietzky Prize for outstanding achievements and courage.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0petition<\/u><\/a>\u00a0started by Roots Action was launched on Snowden\u2019s behalf, requesting that the Norwegian government commit to providing\u00a0Snowden guaranteed protection from extradition to the United States where he faces criminal charges for disclosing classified secrets relating to the NSA\u2019s collecting of data\u00a0on Americans.<\/p>\n

Lynn\u00a0spoke with Flashpoints radio host Dennis J. Bernstein\u00a0from\u00a0Oslo, Norway, explaining why\u00a0she is such a strong supporter of\u00a0Snowden and\u00a0her thoughts about\u00a0the U.S. drone program, which has killed\u00a0hundreds of\u00a0victims, including innocent women and children.<\/p>\n

Lynn is featured in the soon-to-be-released documentary film,\u00a0National Bird<\/em>, which documents, \u201cthe dramatic journey of three whistleblowers who are determined to break the silence around one of the most controversial current affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Roots Action petition notes, \u201cWe do not want Snowden\u2019s chair to be empty in the University Hall in Oslo due to lack of approval to travel to Oslo, as Ossietzky himself was prevented by Hitler from coming to Oslo to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1936.\u201d Signers of the petition include: Noam Chomsky, Arundhati Roy, Daniel Ellsberg, Coleen Rowley, Thomas Drake, Marsha Coleman-Adebayo, William Binney, William Nygaard and John Kiriakou.<\/p>\n
