From gas\u00a0shortages in Western Canada to a\u00a0dramatic spike in\u00a0costs of gasoline\u00a0in\u00a0Newfoundland and Labrador,\u00a0Canadian motorists may be concerned that these are signs that\u00a0price increases\u00a0will surely hit\u00a0the pumps this summer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

But some industry analysts are forecasting no major spikes for the balance of the summer driving season.<\/p>\n

“My\u00a0prognosis\u00a0is we’ve probably seen as much of a price increase at this point that we will see in the summer,” said industry analyst Michael J.\u00a0Ervin\u00a0of\u00a0Kent Group Ltd.<\/p>\n

“There’s always those\u00a0outlier\u00a0things. If there was a substantial increase in crude prices, that could have an impact but we don’t think that we’re going\u00a0to see any upward volatility\u00a0of crude prices in the near future.”<\/p>\n

Roger\u00a0McKnight, a chief petroleum analyst with En-Pro International Inc., said\u00a0that in\u00a012 of the last 13 years, gas prices hit their peak around mid-April.<\/p>\n

In the run-up to the summer driving\u00a0season, which starts\u00a0with the Memorial\u00a0Day weekend in the U.S.,\u00a0prices generally start to fall back because refineries are geared up and ready for the summer driving season.<\/p>\n

And that pattern seems to be repeating itself this year as well, he said.<\/p>\n

“Enjoy it while you\u00a0can,” said\u00a0McKnight. “The prices will remain\u00a0stable if not fall noticeably\u00a0between now and Labour Day.<\/p>\n
