Brexit: Wrong Discussion, Wrong People, Wrong Arguments<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n

Bain\u00a0Immigrants arriving at Ellis Island, New York\u00a0<\/b>1907<\/center>There\u2019ve been a bunch of issues and topics on my -temporarily non-writing- mind, and politics, though as I\u2019ve often said it\u2019s not my preferred focus, keeps on slipping in. That\u2019s not because I\u2019ve gotten more interested in \u2018the game\u2019, but because the game itself is changing in unrecognizable fashion, and that is intricately linked to subjects I find more appealing.For instance, in the past few days, I\u2019ve read Matt Taibbi\u2019s epos on the demise of America\u2019s Republican Party in\u00a0R.I.P., GOP: How Trump Is Killing the Republican Party<\/a>, and Shaun King on a similar demise of the Democrats in\u00a0Why I\u2019m Leaving the Democratic Party After This Presidential Election and You Should Too<\/a>, and both make a lot of sense.<\/p>\n

But I think both also miss out on the main reason why these \u2018demises\u2019 are happening. In my view, it\u2019s not enough, not satisfactory, to talk about disgruntled voters and corrupt politicians and the antics of Donaldo, and leave it at that. There is something bigger, much bigger, going on that drives these events.<\/p>\n

But that I will explain in a later article (soon!). Right now, I want to address another piece of the same pie (though it\u2019s perhaps not obvious that it is): the Brexit \u2018discussion\u2019 in Europe. A May 11 piece by ex-World Banker Peter Koenig provides as good a starting point as any:<\/p>\n
