(<\/b>ANTIMEDIA<\/b><\/a>)<\/b>\u00a0United States exceptionalism has created a preternaturally excessive number of military installments, deployments, and bases around the world. In point of fact, as David Vine\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0for the\u00a0Nation<\/i>\u00a0in September 2015:<\/div>\n

\u201cWhile there are no freestanding foreign bases permanently located in the United States, there are now around\u00a0<\/i>800 US bases<\/i><\/a>\u00a0in foreign countries. Seventy years after World War II and 62 years after the Korean War, there are still 174 US \u2018base sites\u2019 in Germany, 113 in Japan, and 83 in South Korea,\u00a0<\/i>according to the Pentagon<\/i><\/a>. Hundreds more dot the planet in\u00a0<\/i>around 80 countries<\/i><\/a>, including Aruba and Australia, Bahrain and Bulgaria, Colombia, Kenya, and Qatar, among many other places. Although few Americans realize it, the United States likely has bases in more foreign lands than any other people, nation, or empire in history.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

It\u2019s commonly accepted that, in terms of economic and political policy, as Germany goes so goes Europe \u2014 and as the United States goes, so goes Germany. Essentially, European nations\u2019 historical fealty to whims of the U.S. has created a juggernaut of obligatory policies with other countries, whether or not such dealings ultimately prove to be in Europe\u2019s best interests. According to a U.S. Department of Defense report dated June 2015, over\u00a080,000 troops<\/a>were stationed in various locations in Europe \u2014 including 44,660 in Germany, alone \u2014 and those numbers will be bolstered by 3,000 to 5,000 in 2017,\u00a0\u201cto help countries harden themselves against Russian influence,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0as Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter\u00a0stated<\/a>\u00a0in February.<\/p>\n

But as Professor Noam Chomsky explained in an exclusive\u00a0interview with\u00a0AcTVism Munich<\/i><\/a>, as the American empire gasps its last breaths, that tide appears to be turning \u2014 and Europe, with Germany unofficially stationed at the helm, stands before an open window to escape overbearing U.S. influence.<\/p>\n
