Australian Public Broadcaster ABC unable to look at oil statistics<\/a><\/h3>\n

Four times in as many months did\u00a0ABC<\/a>\u00a0publish inaccurate statements about US shale oil. A glut of mis-information. This is unacceptable because it leads to wrong policy decisions and has ultimately damaging economic and financial consequences.<\/p>\n

(1) \u201cUS shale producers pump like never before\u201d<\/strong>
\nJust in time for last year\u2019s X\u2019mas we received these reassuring news:<\/p>\n

Peak oil losing credibility as renewables shift accelerates<\/strong>

\n\u201cUS shale producers are pumping like never before and adding to stockpiles\u201d

(2) \u201cUS virtually self-sufficient in oil\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was broadcast on the 7 pm news (ABC channel 1)

\n\u201cThe United States is now virtually self-sufficient in oil, while Saudi Arabia, the world\u2019s biggest producer, has stepped up production to protect its market share.\u201d

(3) \u201cUS oil output rises\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two months later the headline was:<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe US Energy Information Agency said, despite the dramatic decline in rig numbers, production has steadily grown, indicating that drilling has becoming increasingly efficient\u201d

The graph shows that indeed 2015 production is higher than 2014 but the ABC author failed to look at monthly statistics where a turning point was already visible.<\/p>\n

(4) \u201cNew shale oil technology the end of OPEC\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the most recent article \u201cSaudi Arabia to sell part of Aramco as part of shift from oil<\/strong>\u201d we find this para:<\/p>\n
