AT&amp;T chief lobbyist Jim Cicconi\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.attpublicpolicy.com\/fcc\/att-response-to-white-houseaction-on-fccs-set-top-box-proposal\/\">lashed out<\/a>\u00a0at what he called White House intervention on behalf of \u201cthe Google proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s hardly the first to suggest\u00a0that the Obama administration has become too close to the Silicon Valley juggernaut.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past seven years, Google has created a remarkable partnership with the Obama White House, providing expertise, services, advice, and personnel for vital government projects.<\/p>\n<p>Precisely how much influence this buys Google isn\u2019t always clear. But consider that\u00a0over in the\u00a0European Union, Google is now facing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2016\/04\/20\/technology\/google-android-lawsuit-europe\/\">two major antitrust charges<\/a>\u00a0for abusing its dominance in\u00a0mobile operating systems and\u00a0search. By contrast, in the U.S., a strong case to sanction Google was quashed by a presidentially appointed commission.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a relationship that bears watching.\u00a0\u201cAmericans know surprisingly little about what Google wants and gets from our government,\u201d said Anne Weismann, executive director of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/campaignforaccountability.org\/\">Campaign for Accountability<\/a>, a nonprofit watchdog organization. Seeking to change that, Weismann\u2019s group is spearheading\u00a0a data transparency\u00a0project\u00a0about Google\u2019s interactions\u00a0in Washington.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Intercept<\/em>\u00a0teamed up with Campaign for Accountability to present two revealing data sets from that forthcoming project: one on the number of White House meetings attended by Google representatives, and the second on the revolving door between Google and the government.<\/p>\n<p>As the interactive charts accompanying this article show, Google representatives attended White House meetings more than once a week, on average, from the beginning of Obama\u2019s presidency through October 2015.
