OPINION COLUMNS PUBLISHED\u00a0in California newspapers over the last year in support of the\u00a0Trans-Pacific Partnership use language nearly identical to drafts written and distributed by public relations professionals who were retained by the Japanese government to build U.S. support for the controversial trade agreement.<\/p>\n

Take this column by former San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders, who now serves as the\u00a0president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, in the\u00a0San Diego Union-Tribune<\/em>,\u00a0titled<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cTrans-Pacific trade pact benefits San Diego.\u201d<\/p>\n

Much of the language in Sanders\u2019 op-ed also appears in\u00a0a \u201cSan Diego Draft op-ed\u201d\u00a0distributed<\/a>\u00a0by Southwest Strategies, a consulting firm paid by the Japanese government to promote the TPP:<\/p>\n
