{"id":19658,"date":"2016-04-07T15:23:25","date_gmt":"2016-04-07T20:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=19658"},"modified":"2016-04-07T15:25:06","modified_gmt":"2016-04-07T20:25:06","slug":"residents-flee-home-sales-collapse-44-following-biggest-gas-leak-in-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=19658","title":{"rendered":"Residents Flee, Home Sales Collapse 44% Following Biggest Gas Leak In History"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2016-04-07\/residents-flee-home-sales-collapse-44-following-biggest-gas-leak-history\" target=\"_blank\">Residents Flee, Home Sales Collapse 44% Following Biggest Gas Leak In History<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"tabs\">The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2016-02-05\/fukushima-class-disaster-la-gas-leak-spewing-lethal-levels-breathable-nuclear-materi\">&#8220;Fukushima class disaster&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0that emerged from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-12-24\/unstoppable-california-gas-leak-now-being-called-worst-catastrophe-bp-spill\">Aliso Canyon&#8217;s worst ever gas leak<\/a>\u00a0has left behind more than\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2016-03-26\/whats-happening-people-who-live-near-worst-gas-leak-us-history\">just medical and human issues<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.realtytrac.com\/news\/realtytrac-reports\/porter-ranch-gas-leak-housing-market-analysis\/\">According to RealtyTrac<\/a>, in the three months following the discovery of the gas leak in late October 2015,\u00a0<strong>home sales in the Porter Ranch zip code (91326) plunged 44%,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>&#8220;<strong>market disruption is further signified<\/strong>\u00a0by the number of families that requested relocation out of the Porter Ranch area.&#8221;<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"node\" data-mediaconductor-processed=\"true\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>As a reminder of just what happened in the Porter Ranch area&#8230;<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/video\/c\/embed\/d00da2bc-a8fb-11e5-b596-113f59ee069a\" width=\"480\" height=\"290\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;<strong>the enormity of the Aliso Canyon gas leak cannot be overstated.<\/strong>\u00a0Gas is escaping through a ruptured pipe more than 8,000 feet underground, and it shows no signs of stopping,&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The following map shows the spread of methane over the Los Angeles area and researchers from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2016\/01\/15\/porter-ranch-methane-leak-spreads\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eco Watch report<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<strong>elevated levels of natural gas have been detected as far as 10 miles from the leak:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33922\" src=\"http:\/\/shtfplan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/LA-leak.jpg\" alt=\"LA-leak\" width=\"500\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2016-03-26\/whats-happening-people-who-live-near-worst-gas-leak-us-history\">And residents in the Porter Ranch are are suffering significant health problems&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">On February 18, SoCalGas and the national media declared the<strong>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/rundown\/los-angeles-methane-leak-is-officially-the-worst-in-u-s-history\/\" target=\"_blank\">worst methane gas leak in U.S. history<\/a>\u201d permanently sealed,<\/strong>but just over a month later, hundreds of Porter Ranch residents who evacuated \u2014 and are now returning home \u2014 are<strong>\u00a0suffering the same symptoms they suffered when the gas leak was active<\/strong>.
