Yanis Varoufakis Issues a Major Warning to the Greek People<\/a><\/h3>\n

Varoufakis said that Sch\u00e4uble, Germany\u2019s finance minister and the architect of the deals Greece signed in 2010 and 2012, was \u201cconsistent throughout\u201d. \u201cHis view was \u2018I\u2019m not discussing the program \u2013 this was accepted by the previous [Greek] government and we can\u2019t possibly allow an election to change anything.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cSo at that point I said \u2018Well perhaps we should simply not hold elections anymore for indebted countries\u2019, and there was no answer. The only interpretation I can give [of their view] is, \u2018Yes, that would be a good idea, but it would be difficult. So you either sign on the dotted line or you are out.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

By now, most of you have heard about\u00a0Wikileaks\u2019 release of\u00a0internal deliberations<\/a>\u00a0between\u00a0the top two IMF officials in charge of managing the Greek debt crisis \u2013 Poul Thomsen, the head of the IMF\u2019s European Department, and Delia Velkouleskou, the IMF Mission Chief for Greece.<\/p>\n

In nutshell, the two discussed whether or not a new credit crisis would be required in order to force EU creditors to agree with the IMF\u2019s debt relief objective. Shedding some much needed perspective on the situation, former Greek finance minister\u00a0Yanis Varoufakis has chimed in, and he makes one thing perfectly\u00a0clear \u2014\u00a0no matter who comes out ahead in this dispute (the IMF or the EU), it will be the Greek people who lose.<\/strong><\/p>\n
